Pastoral Care:
We aim to provide a caring, supportive and safe environment for our pupils.
We feel that it is very important that children are aware of their own feelings and of the feelings of others. We emphasise these issues in our teaching in all areas of the curriculum and through our school rules.
We do not agree that it is okay to ‘hit back’ - we ask for paretns' support on this issue. There are better ways to resolve conflict! We will be concentrating on helping pupils’ to become responsible for their own actions and to become more aware of the rights of others.
Bullying:
Bullying is not tolerated in our school!
We hope that children and parents feel confident that their concerns are taken seriously and are listened to sympathetically.
We listen to both sides and offer support and understanding.
Often ‘Bullies’ need help too.
Circle -Time:
We feel that it is important that children learn to talk about their feelings and also that they learn to understand their feelings and the feelings of others. We also feel that it very important that children have confidence in themselves. We feel that circle time is a great way of handling these issues - it raises children’s self-esteem and helps them to appreciate their strengths and the strengths of others in their class. It is also a very useful way of resolving class disputes or simply talking about issues that are effecting pupils in school.
Religious Education:
Although we are not a Catholic School we do follow both the Core Curriculum and the ‘Alive-O’ series. Primary 3 and 4 follow the ‘Forgiveness Institute’ and children are prepared for the sacraments. Every effort is made to make suitable arrangements for those children who do not wish to be part of these arrangements- this is done in consultation with parents. Parents are free to withdraw their child from religious education if they wish.
School Rules:
Parents are the first educators of their children and it is in the home that respect for others and the basis of self - discipline are acquired.
We work in partnership with parents.
We recognise and value the importance of parental support in all areas of school life.
We rely on parents’ support in ensuring that:
Parents are always welcome in our school. If you have a particular concern please get in touch with the school secretary and an appointment can be made to speak with the class teacher.
We value our pupils:
In our school this is how we value our pupils:
The teacher in the classroom uses praise for good behaviour.
Children are entrusted with special tasks and are given special roles in the classroom.
Children are referred to the Principal or to another teacher when special praise is deserved.
A certificate is awarded at the school assembly each week to the pupil who has displayed an effort in either academic or behavioural skills.
The school marking policy calls for a positive response to pupils’ work - this may take the form of verbal or written praise.
Children’s work is put on display throughout the school.
Parents are informed of any special commendation received by their child.
School Uniform:
School uniform should be worn at all times in school. The school uniform consists of:
Yellow Polo shirt
Green school jumper
Grey trousers/skirt
Grey socks/Black shoes (with a sensible heel).
Green summer dress (weather permitting).
School PE kit – on PE days only (school uniform must also be brought)
